Cemetery Restoration Workshop  (Special Events - Non-GTAGS)
2971 South Center Highway, Suttons Bay, Michigan
The Leelanu Historical Society and Bingham Township are hosting a free 3-day Cemetery Resoration Workshop at Maple Grove Cemetery. Restoration includes rehabilitating gravestones and cleaning monuments. No experience required. Workshop hours are 9-4 Friday and Saturday and 11-4 Sunday. Participants need not attend all three sessions. Participants should bring a lunch including enough water for the day, gloves and sun protection. There will be shade tents, snacks and restroom facilities on-site.

'Identifying Old Family Pictures and the People in Them' with Derek Blount
 
Going through photographic history, we will examine various types of photographs and their mountings to determine when and how they were produced. We will also discuss means to determine when photos were taken by looking at clothing and backgrounds.
 
Derek J. Blount is a professional genealogist. He has worked for 38 years on his family genealogy traveling America, Canada and United Kingdom gathering records, visiting cemeteries and churches. Derek was born in England and specializes in research in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations. He holds a B.S. degree from Oakland University and has completed course work at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburg. He has lectured on numerous genealogy subjects for the past 12 years to many of the Michigan and Ontario Genealogical Societies. He is the past Vice President of the Oakland County Genealogical Society and is also on the Board of the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research. Derek also holds memberships in the Irish Genealogical Society of Michigan and the Welsh American Genealogical Society. He holds memberships in the Association of Genealogical Professionals and the Society of Genealogists in London.

Brief Biography:
Judy has been researching her family tree from the age of 12, specializing in French-Canadian, Acadian, Native American and Michigan research.  Beginning as a professional genealogist in Europe in 1993, she has lectured at National Genealogical Society conferences, RootsTech, Federation of Genealogical Societies as well as conferences in Europe and around the United States.  Traveling extensively around the world, Judy has visited and researched in the villages and archives of Germany, Scotland, France, Quebec, and Ontario where her or her husband’s family lived.  Owner of Lineage Journeys, she conducts research for clients and offers presentations in churches, libraries and organizations. 
Judy is the President of the Oakland County Genealogical Society, President for the Michigan Genealogical Council, board member & Awards Chair of the National Genealogical Society, Secretary of the GeneaBloggers, and a member of many societies – among them:  Ontario and Quebec Genealogical Societies, Detroit Society for Genealogical Research, French Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and many more.  Judy has published articles for NGS Magazine, Family Tree Magazine and a host of genealogical societies.  Additionally she is the recipient of the Federation of Genealogical Society’s Award of Merit and awards for her humanitarian service through Rotary International and a number of nonprofit organizations.
As professional in the nonprofit management sector, Judy has worked as a nonprofit staff member, Executive Director, board chair and fundraising chair in Girl Scouts of the USA (and its local organizations), the American Red Cross, and United Way.  She currently serves on a number of nonprofit human service agency boards, most recently also working as an Organizational Development Consultant in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
