Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society Mission and Purpose

The Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society was formed in 1979 to support and encourage those interested in genealogy throughout the Grand Traverse region. Our By-Laws include the following objectives:

     - promote an interest in genealogy

     - educate members in genealogical research methods

     - promote the sharing of genealogical research

     - encourage the collection of genealogical resources in accessible locations

     - cooperate with other genealogical groups

     - publish genealogical information in our newsletter and elsewhere

The Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society (GTAGS) is a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donations, gifts, bequests and contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.

Meeting Info

GTAGS meetings are typically held on the 4th Thursday of the month, Spring through Fall, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the McGuire Room at the Woodmere Branch of the Traverse Area District Library. The business meeting usually preceeds the speaker. Members receive an email about each month's meeting. Non-members should always check the events area of this website to get meeting information.
