Mission / Purpose
The Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society was formed in 1979 to support and encourage those interested in genealogy throughout the Grand Traverse region. Our by-laws include the following objectives:
- promote an interest in genealogy
- educate members in genealogical research methods
- promote the sharing of genealogical research
- encourage the collection of genealogical resources in accessible locations
- cooperate with other genealogical groups
- publish genealogical information in our newsletter and elsewhere
The Grand Traverse Area Genealogical Society (GTAGS) is a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donations, gifts, bequests and contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.

Meeting Info
GTAGS meetings are generally held on the 4th Thursday of the month (March - November) from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the McGuire Room at the Woodmere Branch of the Traverse Area District Library. The business meeting usually preceeds the speaker. Members receive an email about each month's meeting. Non-members should always check the events area of this website to get meeting information.
